Voting and registration

How do I check whether I am registered to vote in Texas?

Check your registration at the Texas Secretary of State's "Am I Registered?" page, or at VOTE411.org from the League of Women Voters Education Fund. It is worth checking even if you believe you are registered: more than 1.2 million Texas registrations, over 6% of the state's voters, are currently on Texas's "suspense" list, which usually means a county could not confirm the voter's address. Being on that list does not cancel a registration, and a suspended voter can still cast a regular ballot by filling out a Statement of Residence at the polling place, as long as they still live in the same county. The deadline to register or update an address for the November 3, 2026 election is October 5, 2026.

How do I find my polling place in Texas?

Polling places are run by your county, not by the state or by any campaign. Find your polling place, sample ballot and hours on your county elections office website: Tarrant, Dallas, Ellis, Johnson or Navarro county for voters in Texas's 6th Congressional District. VoteTexas.gov and VOTE411.org will also point you to your county's information.

What identification do I need to vote in Texas?

Texas asks voters to present one of seven approved photo IDs when voting in person: a Texas driver license, Texas Election Identification Certificate, Texas personal identification card, Texas handgun license, U.S. military ID with a photo, U.S. citizenship certificate with a photo, or a U.S. passport. If you are 18 to 69, the ID may be expired by up to four years; at 70 or older it may be expired for any length of time. A voter who cannot reasonably obtain one of those IDs can still vote by presenting a supporting document and signing a Reasonable Impediment Declaration at the polling place.
